Progress on XGP
I am making good progress on XGP. Today I have coded 4 hours non stop and fixed a lot of things, recoded some bits and cleaned up. I can really tell that I wrote this like a year ago (I’ve become better) ![]()
The new version won’t show any massive changes in the UI (very few yet) but it will be a massive change under the hood.
So yeah, I’ll keep coding and I’ll release it as soon as it is finished!
Network problems
We had an electricity outage in my part of the city this morning, so I have been having some problems with the update-server of MKV Chapterizer and the domain which XGP uses to fetch game profiles also stopped working.
But I am working on it and hopefully it will be back to normal soon, for MKV Chapterizer. I will release a small update once it works again that fixes a crash with the auto updater when it can’t connect.
XGP won’t go back to normal since the domain name it uses to connect is not mine anymore (it was until the ip would change, and now it has). But I will release an update here which uses another domain name. But I also want to change some other things so I won’t release it directly. But don’t worry, for all of you who already has run XGP one time, you will have the list of game profiles still. Though all new users won’t be able to fetch it though ![]()
UPDATE: MKV Chapterizer now works as it should!
2.1.1 Released, AutoUpdater won’t download it for ya
I have now finished and uploaded version 2.1.1 which is more of a maintenance update (it fixes bugs, adds a few features). But I of course recommends you to download it!
Now to the problem: AutoUpdater won’t download it for you, even if you used the installer to install MKV Chapterizer. Why? Because there was an error in the code, that is now fixed in this version. So it SHOULD work in the next release (holding my thumbs).
So yeah, the links to the download can be found on my Google Code page and the MKV Chapterizer page on this blog
Reschedule
Version 2.1.1 is on its way, it took longer than predicted to implement a specific feature. So I have rescheduled it to the next weekend. Then I will have time to finish of the features, bug fixes and so on.
As soon as I release the new version it will of course go live on the new auto-update system, which will notify you when you start the program
As usual you can check the progress of the new version here.
Chapterizing gone wild with v2.1!
Hi guys!
Finally the time has come for me to release version 2.1 of MKV Chapterizer! It contains a few, but big, new features that will enhance the program.
To start with I have finally added a complete auto-updating system which checks and downloads new updates automatically to the program, making it even easier to stay up to date! Though since the updates that are downloaded are installers, I have disabled the downloading feature in the portable version, it will only notify (as 2.0 did). Therefore I recommend choosing the installer ![]()
As some of you maybe remember, I have been talking about a suprise lately, and here it goes: ChapterDB! It may not sound that fantastic but I’ll explain what it is.
ChapterDB is a database on the internet which holds sets of chapters that are pulled from real DVDs by the program Chapter Grabber. The database contains a lot (when I say a lot I mean thousands and thousands) of chapter-sets for a lot of movies. The database is managed by Jarret Vance, who is the creator of Chapter Grabber, and I have gotten permission to use it in MKV Chapterizer too!
So you just switch mode to ChapterDB, type in the name of the movie which you wants chapters for and then click search. You will then get a list of all available chapter-sets. Some less popular movies doesn’t have any chapters stored in ChapterDB so therefore you will not find anything when searching for them.
So what is the advantage of using chapters from ChapterDB vs Interval? Well you get chapters that are timed by a human, meaning that they are placed logically. If you are lucky (if the movie is quite popular) you will also find chapters with the “real” names (from the DVD/Bluray) which will make it look more proffesional
There are of course other news in this version, though I won’t talk about them here. You can go to the MKVC page to see the full changelog.
At last I want to thank Jarret Vance (ChapterDB) and Moritz Bunkus (MkvMerge) for making this release and program a possibility. I also want to thank all the users of my program, version 2.o have gotten about 3000 downloads on 6 months which makes me happy since this is my first real project and I am learning things all the time!
So yeah, what are you waiting for, download and enjoy (the links are here as usually)!
Oh and if you find any bugs/get any errors please create an issue here, so I can fix it in the next version! Questions may be asked in the comments as usually.
How to check my progress
So I have been coding quite much lately now to get the update out as soon as possible. You can check how I am progressing here.
As you can see, the base of every new feature is done, there is just some polishing and bugs to fix
Good news!
The db I was going to use in a new feature is up again! Hooray!
I also have a break from school on a week now, so I will get more time coding the next version. The ETA should be next week.
No suprise
I haven’t got any contact with the manager of the database I was going to use and it hasn’t come back online
So I will be releasing Chapterizer 2.1 without the sunrise feature. I won’t give an ETA, but it should come soon.
Current Situation
Hi guys…
It has been going slow with dev recently. The new epic feature has been broken since 26 September because it relies on database that is managed by another person. That database has been down since then. Can’t develop if it’s down. I have mailed the manager and asked, gotten no answer yet. If I don’t get an answer nor the database goes up again within 5 days from now, I will hide the new feature in this update and only update some other things :/
New update coming
As maybe some of you have noticed on my google code page, I have started working on the next update. The update is mainly some new features (as there haven’t been any reports on any bugs).
I will not reveal all of the features now, or there is one in particular that I want to keep as a suprise (those that have been browsing the source code already know what it is though). I personally think that this new feature is awesome ![]()
Other than that, there will be auto-updating and some smaller ones.
Though I am going on vacation now for 4 weeks = no coding during that time, but promise I will pick up the coding as soon as I get home!
