thanks man by the way what are chapters how important are they and what is xgp

  2. February 10, 2011 at 17:32

chapters are chapters, in all video players (vlc, wmp etc.) you can skip to the next chapter by pressing a pre-defined key or button. But if the file doesn’t have chapters you can’t, so this program inserts them for you automatically.

XGP is what it says on its page. A program that patches the program Xfire so it will detect non-steam games you have installed. But it can also be used to change the directx version xfire detects etc.

I was looking for something like this a while ago and will definitely use it. Unfortunately adding chapters to an MKV means I can’t really seed it anymore. Would it also be possible to de-chapterize the file later to return it to its original state (down to the checksum)? If so, that would be a useful feature.

Another good feature would be the ability to apply chapter files from DVD and BR to the MKV.

    • February 19, 2011 at 23:39

Hi, thank you for using my software, or at least having plans to do so 🙂 De-chapterizing is easy to add, can add it this week. Will probably add a dialog that comes upp if the dropped file already has chapters asking if you want to remove them. I will look into getting DVD/BR chapters to the mkv, shouldn’t be too hard to implement either.

Sounds good. Can you also make a version that will run in mono? I do all my video stuff on Linux.

      • February 20, 2011 at 08:45

That however, will take some time. I will check on that and see if and how hard it is to do.

      • February 25, 2011 at 16:45

I tried adding and then removing chapters from an MKV but the checksum changed 😦
But I will add the feature anyway.

        February 26, 2011 at 18:13

Ok, it’s a long shot but how about this: When you clear the chapters from the MKV with Chapterizer does the file end up the exact same size as the original (prior to applying chapters)?

If so maybe I could just create a PPF file for the difference (google “PPF Studio” and “PPF-O-Matic” if you don’t know what I mean).

Otherwise the only thing I can think of is creating a set of PAR files from the original MKV and then doing a “repair” on the chapterized MKV when I want to reseed it, but seems awfully elaborate.

Anyway, thanks for continuing to work on this and let me know if you think of a more elegant way of reversing the process.

      • February 27, 2011 at 12:08

I tried all kinds of methods I could think of, including those who you mentioned but no one except the PARchive worked. And yes, as you mentioned it is little to overkill maybe. The easiest way to get it back to normal state would be to just make the chapter one a copy or something like that. I even contacted the author of the mkvmerging software I use and he said that it is near to impossible to create 2 identical files while merging/muxing. Even though you are using the same streams :S.

  4. Dinsdale
    February 27, 2011 at 18:29

Well, maybe integrate the PARchive creation into Chapterizer so that it’s basically a one-click kind of deal? Chapterizer could figure out the best PAR parameters based on the MKV size and how many chapter stops are being inserted or something…

Just a suggestion and I can definitely see why you wouldn’t want to do this (too much work, kind of bloaty) but I would find it useful.

Still interested in using this, but I couldn’t get it to run on Linux. It seems that neither Mono nor WINE support the version of .NET it uses (yet).

    • February 27, 2011 at 23:32

I am sorry to say that I tested PARchiving on 2 larger movies (over 1GB) and it didn’t work. There were too many bytes that had to be restored (even though I had PAR files to a total of 100MB). That method is simply for smaller files I guess. I checked my program with MoMa (Mono Compatibility Checker) and what I could read from it, the only thing that was incompatible was a connection to a database and access to a dll file (MediaInfo). I think I can fix those “errors” though I don’t know what more has to be done to be able to run it on Mono. (Couldn’t find so much info about Wine). Gonna ask at the mono forum.

Hi! Thankyou VERY much for your little program. I appreciate it, as I have no programming experience.
Some features that would be nice to see in further releases:
    1) a progress bar (badly needed)
    2) a batch modus. I have tons of .mkv files here and it would be great to have not only this drag-in mode but also a “loading” mode for – let’s say at least 20 mkv files in one batch…
Would that be possible to program?
thankyou VERY much for all your efforts…!
    with greetings from Austria: typestar

Hello, I am glad that you find my program useful 🙂
      1. There is already a progressbar. But you don’t see it until you have started the “chapterizing”.
      2. I have thought of a batch feature. I will include it in the next release for your sake 😉

        Hi again,
I am workin on windows 7 professional with a screen resolution of 2560 x 1440 (recommended for my NEC MultiSync PA 271W) but I use – in order to have readable sizes a “scale” of 125%, which is shown as “medium” (“mittel”) her in my German OS.
With this 125% I can NOT see the progress bar as soon as all runs, only when the screen is set to super tiny 100% I see all…So, as other programs are fully seen, I think it is some kind of code/programming code. Do you think, this would be programmable…? Thankyou for your efforts!

    Wow, This is fantastic tool.

nice tool, but one remark though: please keep “compression” intact when handling mkv… when compression is set to anything than “none” – it causes problems to the most “hardware” miltimedia players. at least to mine. so, i had to remux files once again, removing compression.

    • March 13, 2011 at 09:34

I will change that in the next release. Thank you for noticing it.

    • March 15, 2011 at 22:39

I am aware of that, I will add it to the page to inform others. You should get a real player, such as VLC 🙂
WMP sucks at speaking with all the movie-containers out there.

    not work.

    Bummer!

    • March 20, 2011 at 18:21

Yeah I’ve heard that a lot of commercialized players don’t play the mkvs. I only test with VLC. But I know where the problem is and have fixed it in 2.0 🙂

        Cyb3rH4Xter,

WHEN will the 2.0 version be released.
I really want to have the capturized MKVs playable on ALL possible players, not only VLC, which I like, of course.

        Thankyou for your work!
        Regards: typestar

      • March 20, 2011 at 19:54

I had planned to release the 2.0 Beta today, in a few hours. This release works as it should on single movie chapterizing (add, remove, replace) and should also have the fix for playing the mkvs in other players than VLC (don’t have one of those players so haven’t tested). However the multi-chaperizing is a bit from finished (that is the beta). Expect it before 00:00 GMT+1. I would be happy if you could report back to me if it works with your player 🙂 I had a lot of stuff in the school last week so I hope I will get more time this week to work on the 2.0 final.

First of all, thanks for excellent program!

    Feature request:
please allow to adjust minimum chapter length down to 1 minute.
This is mostly useful for short home video clips.

    Bug report – suggestion:
currently MKV Chapterizer uses compresssed headers (like it is default in latest MKVToolnix releases)
However, most of hardware players currently DO NOT SUPPORT header compression.
    Discussion: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?t=155976
Please disable video/audio stream compressed headers as these are causing a lot of problems right now.

    Thanks !
    AndresVR

    • April 18, 2011 at 16:18

Thank you. That feature is easily implemented so I will do that before I release 2.0. The compression “bug” has been fixed in 2.0 betas and final.

After making the chapters, the videos are not showing up over my network. They play fine on the pc, but if I try to access them with any other pc on the network, they are not there.

What’s the little lock in the icon for?

    • August 18, 2011 at 19:54

The networking issues doesn’t come from MKV Chapterizer, I can assure you. I am using my chapterized videos over samba all the time. I also haven’t received any other complaint about it not working.

      What lock?

  15. August 18, 2011 at 21:29

    @Cyb3rH4X
    Really useful app.

Could you use mkvmerge from mkvtoolnix if installed (from program files directory or an option to select manually) so that the latest version is used.
Also, naming the chapters as the timecode number itself seems like a good idea (perhaps a toggle option in settings).

    Eagerly waiting for new release.
    Thanks.

    • September 28, 2011 at 11:12

The next version is nearly finished (with that feature that I think is awesome). I will implement checking for mkvtoolnix and a switch for that in settings. And customizable chapter names.
The problem with using mkvtoolnix version is that if they update some command or something, that can break the functionality of MKV Chapterizer. But as I said I will add a switch in settings so you can choose the location or something of mkvmerge.

HI there, it doesn’t work under Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit 😦

    • November 21, 2011 at 00:22

That was weird. Which version have you tried, the ZIP or the Installer? Remember that if you use the ZIP version you need to download the .NET 4.0 by yourself if you don’t have it. Though it should get installed automatically via Windows Update.

Can you give me the error that you get?

  19. daniel
    November 21, 2011 at 00:28

I tried both…..and I downloaded too the .NRT 4.0 and succeffully installed.
The program does not end. When it reaches 100%, it continues, and I had to stopped it forcing via ( ctr-alt-del ) and ending process.

    • November 21, 2011 at 00:33

Oh now I see what you mean. The program is working, but what it is doing when it has reached 100% is that it is moving the new file and overwriting the old file. So depending on the speed of your harddrive and how big the file is it can take up to a minute (worst scenario). So test just letting it be for a minute and see if it finishes.

I will release 2.1.1 next weekend with a solution to that (maybe some status message or something). I won’t release it until then because I want to see if there are any other “bugs” first 🙂
      Thank you for notifying me!

  22. November 22, 2011 at 02:25

i just downloaded the latest version. the added features are great. thank you for this software i use it all the time… one thing i noticed with the latest version (2.1) is when i drop my mkv on mkv chapterizer it indicates on the main screen that only one chapter will be added, no matter what file i drop.. it seems to write all the chapters properly though.. with version 2.0 it indicated the number of chapters properly on the main screen… one feature i thought of which may be possible or not? is instead of muxing the chapters automatically, is it possible to add an option to just create the chapter file so i can mux it seperately? the reason i ask is sometimes i want to remove foreign audio and or other elements from an mkv which means i need to mux with mkvtoolnix directly to remove the elements i dont want and then add chapters via mkv chapterizer (another complete mux… ) or maybe even add an option to call up mkvtoolnix ui after i drop the file so i can add or remove audio/subtitles etc.. then i can mux in one go… just a thought..

thanks again for the great software..

    Michael Taylor

    • November 22, 2011 at 21:03

Thank you. Sure I will think of a way of implementing that nicely, though I won’t do so it opens the UI for mkvmerge (sorry).

      • November 23, 2011 at 00:11

that would be great.. creating a seperate chapter file would be just as good i was just thinking of ways to implement it…

WONDERFUL! Just what I’ve been looking for!

Why would one need to use MKVmerge (as offered as an option in “Settings”)?

    • December 20, 2011 at 20:57

It was wished for. You can use that setting to make the program use another mkvmerge, for example if I don’t release an update for a while and mkvmerge gets released in a new, much better version. You could then install that version and point mkvc to it 🙂 (so yeah, it is not necessary to use yet for a while)

I’m looking for a way to remove chapters from mkv files using a batch script. I have tried demuxing and remuxing but that leaves me with audio sync issues and other issues. Your chapter removal works without sync issues so.. is there any way you can help me with reliably removing chapters via command line?

Any chance Chapertizer can be modified to allow chapters every 15 or 30 seconds. Reason being my current SMP (WDTV Live) does not have a commercial skip button. Would be great to advance chapters every 15 tor 30 seconds for this limitation.

Yeah of course, I am working on it 🙂

First let me say THANK-YOU for having the foresight to make this program… it’s genius.
I was so tired of restarting a movie and have to fast forward for what seemed like eons.
the only feature I would like to see would be a way to export/import the Queue to text.
    Thanks again.

    • February 19, 2012 at 10:50

      Thank you 🙂
I will add that to the list of features for the next version. Is there any specific format you would want? Other wise this will be it I think:

      X:\Folder\File.mkv
      X:\Folder\Folder\File.mkv

      and so on 🙂

      • Greg
        February 20, 2012 at 06:46

        X:\Folder\File.mkv
        X:\Folder\Folder\File.mkv
this would be great I could set 20 or so to run by just importing a txt file or keep track of what has been done by exporting the list, with out having to drag the file to mkvmerge to see if the chapters are there.

  31. February 20, 2012 at 19:15

    Thanks.

seriously awesome program. been looking for something like this for a while. i have alot of music/concert blurays on my computer, but almost none of them have chapters. until now 😀
really easy to use and it took less than 5 minutes through chapterdb. i used a chapter from chapterdb labeled dvd, but it worked like a charm on the mkv 720p

Great tool, makes a lot of fun to use it and save time.
    Some features I miss.

Multiple file support or batch mode. Would be great to a a folder with mkv files and give them all chapters with one click.

More Windows 7 user friendly. When the tool is opened. With a right click it should be possible to dock it on the taskbar like other programs do to open it faster.

    • March 13, 2012 at 23:01

      Thank you 🙂
Batch mode can be found by right clicking the program and choosing “Queue mode”, but I’ll add to the list to make it more obvious and something like folder scan and add.
I’m not entirely sure what you mean with the dock thingy, if I right click its icon I can dock it in the taskbar?

hej again. My earlier comment (#76) might also work for merging chapter menus don’t you think..? Extract two menus as one, and merge it back in. Or the process of it all within MKVChapterizer.

I recently joined – via “append” – 2 disc movies, and that makes the chapters stay in split resulting in 2 “menus” in the new single mkv-file. Its not really the end of the world, but it really is annoying when chapter count starts at 1 halfway into a movie, and it messes with softwares that lets you jump to Number-chapter. I have manually merged 2 chapters to 1 with cut&paste into a txt-file, but dear God it is time consuming !!

    So what do you say?

  38. March 23, 2012 at 19:30

    hejhej,
Yeah that can be implemented, will probably do it so it all happens inside MKV Chapterizer (for the simpleness). Though I am soon (hopefully this weekend) finished with the next release, which contains your other requested feature along with some minor enhancements. So I will release that version before I add this feature 🙂

Great little program!!! Piece of cake adding set time intrevals. I have just one quick question though (I’m a noob on this stuff). Is there anyway I can add chapters manually? Good example would be in case I wanted to add chapters to a concert and wanted to set the chapters to begin on each songs intro (instead of a set time intreval through the concert).

Just wondering if this program can do it or if anyone knows of one that can.

Thanks in advance for your reply! 🙂

    • March 31, 2012 at 17:31

      Thank you,
You can’t add (create) chapters in MKV Chapterizer, atm (hmm I think I’ll add that too the feature list).
I think you can create chapters in the original mkvmerge UI, found in MKVToolNix, so check there 🙂

version 2.2 had the ability to create chapter file only. I would shift click chapterize.. it was very simple… in version 2.3 shift click chapterize no longer works. i can go into advanced and select to just create chapter file, however the option does not stay ticked after closing and opening the application. to many clicks, too much time.. can you re-implement shift click chapterize.. and/or make the option stay ticked? i had to remove version 2.3 and reinstall 2.2

    thanks

    • April 1, 2012 at 10:04

I am sorry you had to reinstall the old version.
I realized now that I have thought wrong and that shift-clicking is a simple task and belongs in the simple mode.
I will re-implement it right away, exactly as it was before. Thanks for pointing it out!

I am finding that TV shows in ChapterDB are often combined (so the chapters for all episodes on a disc will be in a single file). Can you make Chapterizer pay attention to which individual chapters the user selects in ChapterDB and only apply those? Example: http://i.imgur.com/TgfaH.png

Alternatively, the ability to chapterize from a local file rather than directly from ChapterDB would work. It seems like there might be some way to do this already, but I can’t seem to figure it out.

    Thanks

    • April 8, 2012 at 22:40

I have added that to the todo-list for the next version now, the ability to only use the chapters that are chosen.
I’ll also add so you can use your own chapterfile, I’ll see how I’ll implement this one though. I am thinking of a third “mode”…

      • Dinsdale
        April 20, 2012 at 17:52

Cyb3rH4Xter: I suddenly realized that my request would probably be more complicated to implement than I first imagined. As you can see from my screenshot (and as I should have noticed before) the chapters have timecodes relative to the beginning of a disc. So if I were to apply them to an MKV file with only one episode it would not work without first subtracting the amount of time from the beginning of that disc (chapter file) from each chapter. Is this something that Chapterizer can automatically compute?

      • April 20, 2012 at 23:14

Yeah I noticed that while I was coding, though I put it aside at that moment. The easiest way to solve this would be if the first selected chapter (the chapter on the top of those you’ve selected) is a chapter at 00:00:00 in that episode. Then you would just be able to check a checkbox or something to tell MKVC to recalculate all the other selected chapters with that chapter as base. Some coding, but it would only take a millisecond for the program to recalculate it.
If there are no chapter that is a “00:00:00” chapter, you would have to type in the time for at least one chapter, then it could recalculate the rest. What do you think about that solution? Do you know if the first chapter of an episode usually is at 00:00:00?

Ok Mate! your coffee money has been sent.. i have 1 minor suggestion – can the “overwrite old file” be made to remember how it was selected? i always leave my old files intact and sometimes i forget to uncheck the box. your proggy is a blessing for all us mkv’rs and i’m spreading the word.

  45. April 20, 2012 at 15:23

Hi there. I’m downloading your mkvchapterizer now, i hope this would be useful in my everyday muxing hobbies 😉
I have a question though, i have muxed an h264 video with mkvmerge with subs and chapters, and then burned it on a dvd, it plays smoothly on my standalone Sony BDplayer but when i press next so i could skip chapter it won’t go to the next, instead it starts again on the current chapter, i have to wait atleast 10 seconds to press again the next button so it could got the next chapter. uhm like this: i’m on chapter 02 but i wanted to skip to chapter 03, so i press next button on the remote, and there it goes, it started at the beginning of of Chapter 02 not 03. Is there a way to fix this problem?
    Please help.

    • April 20, 2012 at 23:09

Sounds very odd, maybe the Sony player handles the chapters that way? It can also be a bug in the software, I would contact Sony about it, doesn’t sound like a wanted feature.
      Anyway, enjoy the program! 🙂

      • April 21, 2012 at 01:17

Uhm it’s not always that way, when i re-encode a movie of about 2gb in size in Handbrreak with subs and chapters it plays good in my bdplayer, u can skip the chapters right away, but in case of remuxing an h264 file, some are good and some are not, skipping chapters are a headache. Maybe i’m missing someting, a fix in the video codec before inserting chapters maybe? By the way your program is cool 🙂 i don’t have to remux to another file again. By the way i have a suggestion, can we somehow edit manually a line or two in your chapterizer? I wanted to edit the last line for end credits, because i always make the exact time for the end credits in movies. Mmg doesn’t work and u have to remux it again.
        Thank u for the reply!

I have trouble registering in doom9.net and videohelp as they see my ip as spammer! not cool. and my post in afterdawn forums is days old and no replies.

That sounds fine. It looks like it is standard to have the first chapter at 00:00:00 (in all the files I’ve seen, anyway).

    • April 21, 2012 at 02:59

Yes all chapters start with 00:00:00.000, if none, mkvmerge will detect errors before muxing.
If i mux a 6gb movie and play it on a bdplayer and that skip chapter problem will occur, it will be very disappointing, considering how much the dual-layer dvd costs now a days.

      • April 21, 2012 at 11:33

Manual chapter editing is something I have planned for a future release, not next release unfortunately. I suggest you not to try, but to research the problem more first. Since the cost of a disc is so high. Sony have Live chat, try that 🙂

Sorry just found this util and very impressed, you mention reading the chapters from ChapterDB format files rather than using regular intervals, how is this achieved.
Also how can you re-apply the chapters extracted from an MKV using the tool.
I suspect the answer may be the same for both, I have searched your site and can find no documentation. Any help would be great.

    • May 2, 2012 at 21:57

You must have read that you can use chapters from ChapterDB 🙂
At the moment, the only way to do so is to use the built-in search (drop mkv, click the blue arrows, search).
I have finished version 2.4 and will release it within a couple of days, just needs some bug testing. One new feature is the ability to use an external chapter file when chapterizing, for example an extracted chapter file or a chapter file from the net. Any format mkvmerge supports is supported (which is quite many formats).
If you downloaded the installer version, the program will prompt you with the update when it is released.
About the documentation….I promise I’ll create some as soon as I have time over! 😉

        May 2, 2012 at 22:50

Thanks for the reply, the arrows were not an obvious visual cue to swapping the chapterizing mode. Usual mechanisms are either a pair of checkboxes or a dropdown, something with a clear set of options, failing that a tooltip would have been handy.

  49. May 2, 2012 at 23:16

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll look into how to make it clearer the best way. Hopefully when the documentation is up, it will also be easier to find everything 🙂

What your program really lacks is the ability to form chapters by the number of chapters you wish to span equally over a file. TMPG “the ancient one” (16bit) does this perfectly for DVD file creation. The reason I ask this, is that spanning chapters by time often leads to a useless chapter at the end showing the credits. I’m not into credits. LOL Just a thought?

    • June 29, 2012 at 00:10

I love the program thus far. I am using it on Windows 7 64 bit, and my “Mode” and arrows remain grayed out (the arrows do not turn blue). How can I fix that problem so that I can search using ChapterDB? I am attempting to chapterize a single file, so I believe the arrows should turn blue.

    • July 2, 2012 at 11:53

      Nice that you like it!
The arrows should turn blue once you drop an mkv file on the program (when in simple mode), but that doesn’t work?

This is a very crude approach to chapters. You need to create something far more useful, which would include:
    – Ability to retain and and all current chapters
    – Ability to add a single chapter or multiple chapters at at any used defined point in the mkv.

    • August 28, 2012 at 17:02

Well that depends on what kind of user you are. This application was made for easy and quick use. You can have a set interval, a custom chapter file or even get chapters directly from ChapterDB. For most users, that is enough. If you have time to sit and place each chapter, one by one, you normally also have time to just download MKVToolnix and do it there.
But well, I was thinking about adding that feature to somewhat complete the feature set. One day when I have time, I will.
Oh and the maintaining of current chapters was a good idea though.

    “De-Chapterizer”

  57. Ted
    September 27, 2012 at 03:51

I know you have a De-Chapterizer built into MKV Chapterizer 2.4 but it will create chapters in files that don’t already have chapters and that’s not going to help if I’m trying to remove chapters in a batch, I would have to run your current program twice in order to get all the files to have no chapters and that could take forever.

  63. Flubber
    January 1, 2013 at 19:06

Cannot change mode from “Interval”. Where/how do I use an external chapter file to add chapters? Is there some setting required to enable this? How do I use Chapter DB? Is there some other dependency required? Whilst the “Interval” mode works, it is not very interesting and the other modes that are interesting either seem to not work or there is no documentation on how to make them work.

  64. Nonya
    January 20, 2013 at 04:47

Love this tool! I would love it if way you added some kind of que based xml download support from chaptersDB. So say I have Title 1.mkv if I use chaptersdb and I download Title 1.xml I add them into the que and am able to do a LARGE number of conversions. I could not get this to work at all.The only only way I seem to be able to use the chaptersdb action is on a single file drop in simple mode where you lose the que functon. The main reason I mention this is I have almost 400 mkv’s from my entire DVD/Bluray collection and I didn’t realize the need for chapters until I got about 300 movies into the process. Maybe make it where you have an advanced mode add all the files and then have a button to check chapters db for the titles in the que and have it grab them all and allow for a batch processing.

  65. January 21, 2013 at 14:42

I join a lot of small files together, It would be great to have a feature where the Program would accept the path of folder and create a Chapter, Sub-Chapter based on the Sub-Folder and File name and file Length in sequence.

  66. Nonya
    January 26, 2013 at 14:29

    Another couple of suggestions –
1)When you drag a named file the file name should be automatically imported into the ChapterDB search field. This would make it so much easier using it with ChapterDB. I dislike having to retype the same file name into the field to get the chapters.
    2) Make this program support multiple drives. E.G. If I chapterize an mkv on my C drive it chapterizes in the proper amount of time. if I chapterize a file on my D drive I have the chapterization but then I have the long file copy wait. This is because the files your temping to are on the C drive. You should make it so the temped file is on the same local drive as the mkv.

SInce the chapterdb site had its API key issue you can no longer use the mkv chapterizer to search for chapters. You get 403 forbidden errors no matter what search criteria you put in. It only works if you use chapterdb and download the file and then link to the downloaded file. Might want to fix this in the chapterizer and then put out a new version.

The developer has not released the source so no until the developer does this its not going to work. FYI here is the work around. I keep checking back about once a month because I get so many items without chapters I love this tool.

Note: this cannot be on advanced mode.

    1)Go to chapterdb
2)Search for the movie you want.
3)In the list select the chapter selection you want
    4)Download as txt or xml.
    5)Open up mkvchapterizer.
6)Drag the mkv to the window.
7)Click the circled arrows past the interval selection and past the chapterdbsearch
8)Put in the txt or xml you downloaded.
    9)Chapterize

Besides working as a professional video converter, Bigasoft Total Video Converter is also a powerful MKV Splitter which can divide MKV video up into individual files by chapter. Aside from splitting MKV by chapter, Bigasoft Total Video Converter also can split other video or audio formats into separate files as long as they contain chapters in the file.

Just google search Step by Step Guide on How to Split MKV by Chapter on Mac or Windows

You will find it as well as a step by step guide

currently I use mkvtoolnix cli in a batch file with the FOR command to convert other file formats to mkv, then import the folder to mkvchapterizer to put chapters in at generic times (every 5 min.) is it possible to do this in one step or is the current method the advised way?

Hi, Cool you’re back. I wonder if you can make some improvement for linux users, because I can not use it on my ubuntu.
    Thank you!
    (I used google translate)

VERY excited about this utility! I stumbled acrossed it thanks to google. The lack of “help” was very confusing at first. While trying to search ChapterDB, I’m getting “The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.” I did go to ChapterDB.org and logged in with my gmail account, but that didn’t help. Also while in Advanced Mode, after adding files to the queue, the ‘blue arrows’ are greyed out (they only function in ‘simple mode’).

    Also:
Could you make the “blue arrows” look like a button? the way they are I didn’t realize it could be clicked on, I thought they would start moving while chapterizing (to indicate the MKV is being processed). Also could you add labels while hovering over icons in the queue tab (in advanced mode)?

The format of the information in the text file, if someone opt’s to do it that way, is VERY specific. That’s something else that could go into a “help” section… an example of a (movie)Chapters.txt

how do you opt to do the VERY specific chaptering. i dont know how and looking at the help section doesnt help me much. well this tool allows you to do chaptering as you will right? not just automatic interval

Program crashes with error 112 (Not enough disk space). Drive has 453gb free. MKV file is 2.95gb. I used a basketball game as a test. The resulting file was not playable after displaying the above error twice, then reporting process completed normally without errors. Had set it to create chapters every 5 minutes.

This occurs because the program uses the %TEMP% environment variable. My Temp folder is on a ram drive with only 2gb of storage.

Would be great if the program included the option to set the location of the temporary files.

As it is, to use this program I have to modify the %TEMP% variable, Logout, run the program, change the variable back, logout and continue on with whatever I was doing..

As for Larry (Sep 15, 2014 at 06:22), when I try to search ChapterDB, I get “The remote server returned an error: (403) Forbidden.” I’m using the portable version in Windows 7. Can anyone help resolve this error, please?

Nice tool, however searching with ChapterDB results in a 403 forbidden error.
Also noticed that not always chapters are “seen” by players as PowerDVD.

Anybody got a working solution (a simple one preferrably) for the 112 (not enough disk space) error ??
Program was working fine for years until the other day !!?!?

    Help !!

Aha… It seems I solved it myself… Apparently there has to be space available at the “temp/TMP” drive that is larger that the file itself.
I just presumed there had to be space available equivalent of the file itself eg the file is 4 GB then I presumed it would be enough to have 4-5 GB free… This seems to be wrong.
I moved several files from my Temp drive so that I have 28GB free, ran chapterizer again (with the file placed on a different drive, and presto… no 112 fault 🙂

Just thought I would share in case anyone else is/would experience the same problem…

Anyway to change it to where it doesn’t use your ‘C’ drive? Reason i’m asking is to quit writing to my SSD so much.

Feature(s) suggestion. ChapterDB seems to have too many errors. Too many entries are missing actual names and/or there are errors (and not an easy way to fix them), besides there might be issues when doing the search/match. It would be good to be able to edit the list of chapters before they get applied to the MKV and/or to be able to upload the improvements to ChapterDB (which should have a way to clean it up, but that is a subject for another forum).

For example. I’m trying to add chapters to my DVD Rip of Schindler’s List (transcoding from the 2 part DVD version). There are several versions on ChapterDB (browse for “Schindler” to see them all). As usual, most have no names. For this edition, there are 2 entries (one for each DVD), but since there is a variation in the name, it doesn’t get picked by Chapterizer, which picks a DVD version that has a mistake (the person who entered, skipped over chapter 10 “A one armed machinist”, moving up remaining chapters, misnaming 18 chapters – a data entry error).

I had similar issues with Casablanca, which has slight variations in different DVD editions (there are 36 chapter and 32 chapter variations -a couple of the the chapters are merged together- the ones that don’t have “A beautiful friendship” as the last chapter are likely in error). Some ChapterDB users just copy from a larger list of chapters, and end up misnaming chapters. I uploaded my corrected version, but I there is no way to flag or remove the entries with mistakes, so it won’t get fixed. (The whole process was a hassle, first figuring out the correct names, and then using the ChapterDB submission app since I don’t actually have the optical media easily accessible – I converted them to ISOs a long time ago, just slowly transcoding to MKV for easier access, so I had to mount the ISOs, and most players I use don’t like that).

Being able to override the output of ChapterDB would at least allow to correct the data. If you’re using this utility, you’re probably a bit more aware of th erros, and would like to correct the data (and upload it back to ChapterDB).

Great tool, however i keep receiving errors from Sharpdate that it is unable to connect to the update server. Attempts to add the file to windows firewall or close windows firewall completely have not lead to the error dissapearing, any suggestions?

Is it possible to specify a different output HDD than input? Original files on HDD D: and modified on HDD E :.
